Hydrosols
Hydrosols are the secondary products created during the distillation of plants & flowers to extract essential oils that contain the emulsified oil.
These watery solutions, or hydrosols, are a much underrated by-product of the process of creating essential oils. For many years, due to a lack of understanding of their properties and uses, they were simply disposed of.
As they contain many of the beneficial properties of the flower & its essential oil, Hydrosols have varied uses, and unlike their essential oil counterparts, they can be used directly on the skin – making them particularly ideal for use with high risk groups such as babies, children, pregnant women & animals or those with fragile immune systems.
Hydrosols are not simply essential oils added to water, as often wrongly assumed, and cannot be manufactured synthetically. They have their own distinct properties and composition, distinct to both that of the source plant & its equivalent essential oil.
